The prevalence of status epilepticus (ES) in Europe and the USA remains stable at 10-20 cases per 100 000 population per year. Although post-status mortality has decreased in recent years, delayed mortality remains high, with 40% of patients who survive the first 30 days after ES dying within the next 10 years.
