Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) or trigeminal neuralgia is rightfully considered one of the most painful conditions and is a chronic non-inflammatory disease of the peripheral nervous system with sharp, lightning-fast pain in the face, often practically uncontrollable due to the disruption of the transmission of sensory signals from the skin of the face and head, the mucous membrane of the mouth to the brain [5]. Risk factors for the development of TN are varied, the main ones being age over 50 years and female gender [6]. Less significant risk factors may include frequent hypothermia, treatment and extraction of teeth, orthodontic treatment, regular chewing of hard food, decreased immunity [16].
